I swear this session had me cracking up laughing from beginning to end! I love this couple! Like so many, I have become an addict of the website pinterest and have now shared my addiction with this hubby's Mrs.! :) Anyway, she had seen an image there which helped inspire her to do something similar but amongst Christmas trees for this year's Christmas cards. So we ventured out to the local Christmas tree lot and couldn't stop laughing at all the weird looks and staring that were going on around us! So much fun and so glad everyone was cool with being gawked at. What? Is it not common to go to a Christmas tree lot and see this?? HA!HA!

I have been blessed in so many ways over the past year! One wonderful blessing that I am thankful for is the friendship I have made with this mom. It is such a joy to know moms who share the same values as I do. However not only does she put faith and family as her priorities like I do but she also places her love of photography as a close second too.
Not only do we chat about the digital age of photography but we both were involved with photography during the "dark ages" of film. What an amazing family this family is! I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and photograph this family for the first time last year. So I give a lot of credit to families who book sessions that include all the extended families. So I would have to say this is the first time a family has ever met me for a session and asked me to "take a hike". HA!HA! Seriously though I knew we were gonna go bridge seeking for their session but like many beautiful destinations, it took a little effort from all of us to get there! However, I have to say after this session I was throughly impressed with mom and dad who not only climbed both downhill and then uphill carrying the littliest ones but dad even helped me carry my camera bag back uphill to the car. They are both rock star hikers and I hope to go hiking with them again soon minus the heavy camera bag! :) Thanks everyone for having me take your family's photos at such a gorgeous hidden treasure! What a difference a day makes is all I have to say about this silly weather we had this past fall! We can go from umbrellas and rain gear for my camera one day to shading my lens to avoid flare! Growing up in a small community and then having the opportunity to raise my children in that same community has some wonderful benefits. I am friends with a lot of moms and dads that I had the chance to go to school with or our parents went to school together or our parents worked together...and in some cases did all three of these things! It makes me feel like living in a small community such as ours is like living amongst a lot of extended family members. I feel lucky to know a lot of the parents my children are and will be going to school with because of this history.
One of these moms in this session I got the privilege to get to know from our children's school and come to find out our dads worked together years ago and my dad was even her brother's (who is also in these pics)football coach at one time! I love this little town of mine!! This family was so great! We had to deal with some dark clouds, some raindrops, and sudden but brief gusts of wind during their session but everyone just kept their smiles and did sooo awesome!! Thanks Everyone!

Being around boys and being the only girl is my daily routine...and I LOVE it! However, I do look forward to my sessions with these lovely ladies for a little girl time! For this photo shoot we ventured to a good ole' fashioned pumpkin patch. We checked out the pumpkins, flowers, tall sunflowers, and corn in this little hidden treasure. It was such a fun day! Personally I try to avoid anything that doesn't keep both my feet safely on the ground. Yes, I don't enjoy riding any bikes other than a stationary bike, I don't like rollerskating/rollerblading, ice skating, and I cringe at the thought of me attempting to use a skateboard. I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I was not blessed with the best balance on these sorts of contraptions. I leave this type of fun to the professionals!

Yet, I have to say that I was honored to be asked to meet these fellas and one of their moms at the local skatepark to capture some shots of them showing their skills on a board. I was very impressed with how well these guys could skate and I hope they all continue enjoying this cool sport!

Great Food, Nice Staff, and They Have a Tree in the Building!! {Fresno, CA. Child Birthday Party and Portraits}

The month of June brings the beginning of summer and summers in this area are usually unforgiving when it comes to the heat. June is also the birth month of my oldest child. The first three birthday parties we had for him, the temps were well over 100 degrees which was not very easy on his guests. As he got older, we (mom and dad) got wiser and chose to have indoor parties for him. This last year he had his birthday party at his favorite restaurant, Huckleberry's. He loves the food there, the staff is always friendly with us, and most importantly (in my son's opinion) there is a tree in the building. Now to a 6 year old that is pretty cool! Here are some shots from his birthday festivities~

This is his 6 year old portrait session we shot up and around our local river.

I had the hardest time finding some party ideas for this theme. So for party favors we purchased the small canning jars and stuffed them with chocolate cake crumbs and gummy worms to give it a look of a jar of worms for fishing bait. The invites I saw on the Oh So Beautiful Paper website and went with something similar.

Because his actual birthday fell mid-week we had his party with a few friends on the weekend and we took him for pizza and had a cake at home on his actual birthday.

As mentioned in previous posts, I am currently trying to catch up on my blog posts. This was a fun birthday for a big two year old little guy. He celebrated his special day surrounded by family and friends who love him very much! What a joy it was to be able to attend this cutie pie's wonderful party!

I love the birthday boy's expression in this shot. He had just licked all the frosting off his cupcake and put the rest on his cousin's table. I took this as he waited to see if anyone noticed what he did.

I love doing milestone portraits for many reasons. I enjoy being able to spend time with clients knowing that we will get a chance to visit again in a few months (if not sooner). I also enjoy these year long sessions because I enjoy seeing how much a baby develops just in the few months that I havent seen them. With how fast this little guy was crawling during his session, I expect him to not only be walking but probably out running me for his 12 month session. :)
I enjoyed shooting this little man's 9 month portraits and being able to catch up with his fabulous mommy at the same time. 100 Years of Blessings {Fresno, CA. Family Portrait and Event Photography}

I have mentioned many times before that there are many aspects of this job that I adore! One being the friendships I have made with clients. One particular friendship that I have gained from this job is from my dear friend E. When she called me for these two days of sessions, I was thrilled to do it!

Her wonderful family came into town from all over to help celebrate this beautiful woman's 100th birthday. The first day for the formal portrait session, I so enjoyed not only spending time with the birthday guest of honor but getting to know her daughters, son-in-laws,grandchildren,great-grandchildren, and more! What an amazing family she has!!

The second day session was of her actual birthday celebration where I got to meet more of her family and friends. That weekend helped remind me of the many people we influence in our lives and for this birthday gal, 100 years is a lot of years of influence!!

Thank you so much to her entire family for allowing me to share these memorable weekend with all of you and I enjoyed getting to know my friend E's wonderful family! Blessings to all of you!

Support Local Artisans {Sanger, CA. Childrens Portraits}

Growing up in our small community, I was always encouraged by my parents to support local vendors. You know, the "mom and pop" places that are sadly becoming a dying breed in the world these days. I remember my dad telling us, "sure you may get to purchase the same thing from the chain store cheaper but when you buy local from the people that know you, if there is ever an issue with the item, you have a person to talk to about it and not a corporation with store policies. And most of the time they'll replace it with or without the receipt...with no questions asked." And I would have to say that I still believe that theory to be true. I love dealing with artisans with creative talents that not only take the time to listen to what I am wanting but who give your items that special attention they give when making it.

I have always wanted to learn to sew. I have my mother's sewing machine she handed down to me but have yet to sew anything with it. I have tried but just dont seem to have the knack it takes to sew. Lucky for me that through the fates of our children being classmates, I have grown a friendship with a local artist who has the amazing talent of sewing the most adorable clothes. Alyssa at Polka Dot Moon Bowtique does an amazing job sewing!! I am so glad to have hired her to create these adorable dresses for these sweet little darlings for Christmas and was thrilled to be able to finally photograph these little ladies modeling their dresses. Thank you again Alyssa for making these and I cant wait to purchase more of your clothing creations!!

Just us and a Handful of Family and Friends { Destination Beach Wedding - Morro Bay, CA.}

I photographed my first wedding professionally at the young age of 19. Throughout the years, I have heard many couples start their wedding plans with, "It's gonna be small, just us and a handful of family and friends" and by the time the big day comes around that "smallish" wedding grew tremendously. But hey, it happens to the best of us...yes, even my own wedding many years and many weddings after I shot my first wedding was to be very small but then developed into something bigger than we planned...and it was wonderful!!
However, I must hand it to this couple. They wanted a beautiful intimate wedding at the beach witnessed by family and friends and that is exactly what they had! I also have to admit that this wedding touched very close to home. You see, the bride is my sister-in-law. I met her on her 14th birthday when her brother (my husband) took me to her party at John's Incredible Pizza. I have been lucky to be around to watch her grow from the young girl I met almost 10 years ago to the beautiful young accomplished woman she is today and I look forward to watching this young couple's marriage blossom. Congratulations you two!!

The lunch reception afterwards was even interrupted by a pirate! Totally unplanned but I guess this pirate makes an entrance to call out the hour and we took advantage of his appearance with some pictures. He was lots of fun!!

I had my hubby and other sister-in-law give their baby sister a sandwich hug! I think this is super cute!!

I saw this quote and this idea on a great crafty blog that I follow. I loved the quote and their idea for a easy but very personal Father's Day gift. We did this collage and glued the picture to cardstock as a cover to a card, then my oldest signed the card from him and his brother. My Husband LOVED it!! Happy Father's Day to my amazing husband and to all you wonderful dads out there! Thank you for all that you do for your families!!

Having studied art and earned my degree in the field, I have a personal appreciation for those who can create something from a blank canvas. So when my sweetie (aka my husband) wanted to get his first tattoo, I was supportive of his decision as long as the art he chose meant something to him...and he sure did. Not only did he choose to place our first child's name on the tattoo but my hubby chose something to represent his own baptism and having completed all of his sacraments to join our faith during that time.
I created this shot in my mind for many years but for whatever reason never shot it. I am glad that I am finally able to see in front of me the picture that I had envisioned many times in my head. So to my wonderful husband and devoted father to our children, I wish you an early Happy Father's Day!! Enjoy!!

I am usually busy this time of year but have been especially busy this year, which I am always thankful for!! One aspect of this job that I would have to say is one of my favorites, is the ability to be a small part of a growing family each time I am invited to capture images of their new additions (or soon to be additions in this case). It seriously just seems like the other day I was taking maternity pictures of this big boy when he was in his mama's tummy! And now, he's about to be a big brother!! Oh the years go by sooo fast!! I had a blast spending time on this gorgeous overcast mother's day. Thankfully we missed the rain but we did get to do some singing despite the rain's absence. :)

My mother's day weekend was so awesome!! I had the privilege of spending time with some wonderful moms and kiddos each day and finally ended the weekend with my own three favorite boys!

I still get amazed with how fast babies grow and change in a matter of months. This little guy was only 2 months old when I photographed his wonderful family's portraits and I was speechless to see how much he has changed in a couple of months.

I was super thrilled to get an email a few weeks ago from his mom asking about doing his 6 month pictures. I was stoked that mom wanted to do as she called it, "nakey bird" pics since big sister had these kind of pics done when she was his age.

So who says that bunny pictures NEED to be before Easter?? Just Another Glorious Day Out On the Field {Clovis, CA. Senior Portrait Session}

I was so happy to do this senior session. It was a beautiful day...sunny skies, billowy clouds, and just the right amount of breeze to get this gal's gorgeous long brown locks blowing in the wind in some of her shots! I really enjoy all areas of portrait and event photography but I would have to say that senior portraits is sorta like going home to me. Doing senior portraits is where I started my career in photography some 15 years ago. Wow, that makes me feel really old thinking that!

It was Easter Season last year when I decided that this year I was going to try offering bunny sessions. I like most moms and dads, use to always take my oldest to the local malls for Easter pictures. Yes, even though I am a photographer myself, I like most parents just thought it was always easiest to take my child there for these seasonal pictures.

However, after last year's experience at the mall ending in tears from my oldest, piercing screams from my youngest, a photographer who was not patient nor friendly,and a very unhappy mama...I decided that was my last year taking mall pictures. I decided that this Easter I would step up to the plate and offer Bunny Sessions and I LOVED the experience!! I had wonderful children who came to visit us, a patient and calm bunny, gorgeous background, and AWESOME parents who were super wonderful!!! It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait until our next mini portrait session!!

I should've bought a lottery ticket this week because I was sure lucky to schedule this wonderful family's session on the one day (okay maybe there were two days) that we had gorgeous blue skies and was not raining. Sweet!! I so enjoyed this sunny morning getting a chance to meet this family. Totally easy going mom and dad plus super adorable kiddos and mix that in with a grandma who was a great helper behind the scenes to get her grandbabies to smile for the camera, well that's my kinda photo session! So okay, this family's name isn't exactly The Smithsonians but I liked the play on words! Well I have always loved and admired this family's appreciation toward anything vintage. A perfect example of that is their wonderful choice of outfits like the one that mom has in this session...from the wonderful top to the classic pearls. I was so inspired by the vintage feel that I even did some of their edits with a aged classic color tone. We had a wonderful sunny afternoon and caught the last bit of the blossoms for the season for their shots...YAY!! The kiddos did awesome with our foothills driving adventure too! When my oldest was in preschool, they did a song and dance on St. Patrick's Day that will now forever be burned into my brain every St. Patrick's Day. It really is a cute song which luckily is why it's not too bad that it gets stuck in my head for manys days after St. Patrick's Day has passed. I love when I get to revisit families again and again for more portraits. Not only am I amazed at how much the family has changed (even in a matter of months) but I love when the kiddos in the families are super excited to hang out with me again! For example, when I got the phone message from the wonderful mama of these adorable kiddos to book this session, I loved the fact that not only was mom talking on the message but big sister was trying to say hello to me too! I also loved the fact that when I arrived for the session, all the kiddos and mom greeted me at the door. I surely felt welcomed and loved just like a friend showing up for a playdate!! I first came upon this artist when I had two more weeks till I was due with my youngest child. I had been planning his newborn photo session for a while before that and had been searching for just the right little hats for his first pictures. I was fairly new to the website etsy.com but had heard that was a great place to find wonderful handmade items. This is where I first crossed paths with Danyel from Crazysocks Crochet Shop. Her beautifully handmade crochet hats combined with her quick and very friendly email replies back to me had me "hooked" and I have been ordering from her ever since! I highly recommend her for any special hat you'd like custom made! She does a wonderful job! Also, though learning to crochet is definatly something on my bucket list but is something I have yet to try, she also sells crochet patterns to those of you who are knowledgable in the art of crochet too! My life is surrounded by boys! I literally am the only girl in my house...yes even the pets are boys! And even though I love ALL of my boys in my life, it was nice to take a morning and hang out with the girls. These lovely little ladies and their mama did such a great job and smiled for pictures even though one little lady had the sniffles and the other little gal got a tad chilly in the cold weather from time to time. But we figured out ways to warm up with running, jumping, and yes playing "hug o' war". Thanks ladies for spending the morning with me. Here are just a few to enjoy! ~Hugs to you!

As I get older, I am so lucky to be in a time of my life that allows me to be amongst peers that I admire. These wonderful parents are a prime example of that! What can I say about this family? I have been friends with this family's little mama for...wow...for 20 years now?? Really?? We met on the yearbook staff when we were in junior high...and yes, I was the school's photographer back then too! Anyway, throughout the years and the couple of times that we actually lost touch for a little while, whenever we meet again it's as if no time has passed and we are right back to sitting on that junior high bench that we and our friends would sit on at lunch and talk endlessly. To me that's true friendship! During my weirdness, my dorky jokes, my venting, she's always been my friend and I appreciate her for that!
I was more than honored to shoot the first "official" family portrait since their latest addition arrived last year! They are a great family and I am proud to call them my friends! Hope you enjoy your preview! Many Blessings to you guys during this holiday season!

Being a mom of two boys isn't always an easy job for me. I have learned to get use to them bringing bugs in the house, finding rocks from outside in my purse, and getting use to finding them playing with dirt and knowing that it isn't always a bad thing. Yes, having two boys has had some getting use to but I LOVE it and wouldn't want it any other way!
Not only do I love this family for the good people they are but because everytime I see them, I am reminded how wonderful it is being a mom of two boys! A Chilly Morning with A Warm and Loving Family {Clovis, CA. Fall Family Portraits}

This past year the weather has been crazy!! A few weeks ago, I was shooting family portraits wearing a t-shirt and jeans. This past weekend, I was bundled in jeans,a long sleeve shirt, and hoodie during portraits...and I was still cold! :) This family faced the cold weather without fear or complaints. Instead, their warm smiles, friendliness, positive attitude, and good hearts helped me ignore the cold weather and in turn have lots of fun taking their pictures while chatting and getting to know this wonderful family! You know most people giggle when I suggest this location. Only because back in the day (meaning my high school years), this was quite the "gathering" spot for most of us. Not me however, since back in the day my curfew was like 9pm. :( But for most, this was quite the place to be! Even though those years are almost a decade and a half away, I would have to agree with my classmates from back then...it is a great place...for pictures that is! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, the gorgeous fall colors we were able to capture in this session. Then combine that with the gorgeous family that I was photographing...how can we go wrong? I really enjoy coming from a small community. There is something great about raising my children around people me and my parents have known all our lives. The small town feeling of knowing and trusting your neighbors is a quality that sadly many places are losing. However, I feel very lucky to live in a town where I can still go to the local places and know at least one person there!
This family is a wonderful family that I was so happy to photograph! They are wonderful neighbors and after years of living near eachother and chatting, we learned that there were friendly connections from my family and theirs...it is always such a small world in a small town! :) Thanks again for having me photograph your family and I hope you enjoy the preview!!
